In 1987 I left a job I loved in order to spend
four years at art school where I explored
painting. I’ve since had paintings exhibited at
the Royal Academy, London; Royal West of England
Academy, Bristol; Bonhams of Knightsbridge,
London; and also in lots of regional exhibitions.
I love colour. I love nature. And I paint from the heart. I need to be in a peaceful, still environment in order to paint and I meditate before starting. My studio is our small conservatory so there’s plenty of natural light and I can see our garden and the sky outside, all of which is very important to me.
When I work on a painting I don’t have a preconceived idea of the end product – I trust in the process and allow my critical eye to tell me what’s working and what’s not. It can be a quick process but can also take a long time!
My paintings have a strong spiritual element. I have a passion for the whole area of mind, body and spirit – I am qualified in reflexology, Swedish massage and Indian head massage, and have trained in Reiki and done lots of workshops. I read widely on MBS, which inevitably influences my painting.
Engaging with the landscape is important. First thing every morning I go for a one-and-a-half hour walk on the hillside above Bath with my boistrous dog, Busta. I remark every day how fortunate I am to be able to walk in such a fantastic landscape so near to where I live.
