I first heard about your newsletter by
Universally Rio member Barbara Cheney. We met at
a 5 Rhythms workshop where we just let it all out
and haven’t looked back since! Thank you Barbara.
I have practised spiritual healing for 30 years now. While always enjoying this form of healing I wanted to practise “hands on” treatments as well and so trained as a reflexologist and aromatherapist in 2000.
In 2002 my husband and I bought a large Victorian house in Bath. When I first walked into the annexe it spoke to me: “This could be a Centre”. Before that moment I wasn’t looking for a Centre! My husband decorated the three rooms which were to be the hub of the Centre and gatherings and treatments started soon after. In April this year I left my full-time job to concentrate on making it the place it desires to be. It’s called the Minerva Centre, named after the Roman goddess Minerva who is also the patroness of Bath. I thought it good to be under such archetypal aegis! Her qualities are that of a protectoress, upholder of justice and supporter of all art activities.
The Centre is host to regular therapists offering aromatherapy, reflexology, nutrition, hypnotherapy, polarity therapy, reiki and holistic beauty. Over the years we have had numerous courses including: Tai Chi, Baha’i meditations, vegan cooking, Keltic festival celebrations and dowsing. We also have talks on holistic topics which are of interest to both the general public and therapists. With the help of my colleagues in 2008 we will be extending our range of courses to include practitioner development training. Courses already planned are Precision Reflexology, Birthlight Yoga and Nurturing Babies Through Movement.
My dream is to have an integrated health service. In my aromatherapy practice I have had some amazing results with Hepatitis C patients which have convinced me of the case for orthodox and holistic practices working together – it can’t happen quick enough! In any hospital department such an interchange would be invaluable in terms of cost, effectiveness, side effects, general wellbeing and empowerment. In our local hospital there is a token acupuncturist in the pain clinic, not paid by the NHS of course, otherwise holistic therapies are not practised.
I am interested in pushing the boundaries of the holistic approach. For instance, as an aromatherapist I feel we are only just touching important truths and would very much like to work with others who feel the same way. I would like to invite an interchange of visits by a variety of therapists so that the groundswell of what is available holistically can be tasted and incorporated into work already being done. Some of my recently published papers include: “Memory and the Emotions”, “The Spiritual Realities of Essential Oils” and “The Alchemical Quintessence”. Please contact me if you would like copies.
