Dana Swain is an Associate Teacher with the
Tamalpa Institute in California, a pioneering
school in movement-based expressive arts therapy
and education. Dana has over 10 years in
training and facilitation, and has worked using
an expressive arts-based format with youth from
Northern Ireland, and most recently in Luanda,
Angola, facilitating a workshop and performance
of 50 youth entitled "dance for Peace" in
partnership with the NGO Development Workshop,
and using the Tamalpa Institute Life/Art process.
Dana lives in Rio de Janeiro and at present is offering a series of workshops entitled:
Body Talk: Listening to the Voice of the Creative Body
If your body could speak, what would it say?
During times of transition, our bodies have much to say, and many stories to tell. We bring our bodies to new countries and new cultures, and in a sense we "shape-shift" our bodies and identities to fit into our new surroundings. Using the unique Halprin Life/Art process, we explore ways in which our bodies speak to us, telling us stories of our creative and often challenging transformations in our new environment. We access the inherent wisdom of the body through movement, drawing, creative writing, and poetry. We discover new resources and new possibilities to assist in our transitions, and a deeper place to stand within ourselves at any moment of our lives.
Take some time to rejuvinate, unleash, play and explore who your are and where you are standing in your life at this moment. No dance experience necessary.
